Thanks. I've never seen a VO command that doesn't include the VO keys, but then again I'm used to the mac. To add to those key commands: up and down move by line; left and right move by character; option up and down move by paragraph, though that doesn't work very well in my experience; option left and right move by word. As Raul said, add shift to select or de-select, if you are moving over already-selected text. Hit an arrow key by itself to de-select all. Command-a also works to select all.
