But I guess I did solve the original problem. If only the solution was more elegant. Interestingly, regarding the location question, on the old system the files were located under iTunes\iTunesMedia. But on the new system, after I performed the add folder, the files were placed in iTunes\iTunesMedia\Music. This may have had something to do with the original problem. I don't know.
