It's not that there's a big difference in battery life between IOS 6 and
IOS 7.1. When you update IOS 7.1 though, you end up with a few more
things running. For example, bluetooth will be enabled. You can turn it
off if you don't need it and you want to save some battery life.
Location services also running more often. I haven't looked into this
myself, but it's been discussed quite a bit on list, so wait for someone
else to chime in or check the list's archives.
