I took my own iPad to T-Mobile and got the 200 MB free for life. It works for what I do with it while I'm out. My phone does the rest, and I can hotspot if I need more data for the iPad. BTW, T-Mobile recently upped the 500MB high-speed data to 1GB per month at no additional cost. If you go over the 1GB they simply slow you down until the next sycle begins. That's no problem for me as I don't usually go over and if I would I would just use it for GPS which works fine at the slower speed anyway.

I know people made a fairly big deal when T-Mobile offered the 200 Gb free data for life with the purchase of an iPad, but this is even better if it works. I'm not in the States but I'd certainly spend $30 to get a LTE device for 500 Mb of free data.
