Hi Alia, I just asked some questions here about the BraillePen 12 Touch a couple of days ago. I also emailed Larry Lewis, from Flying Blind, whose info has been posted on this group a couple of times. He is very helpful!!! In my email to him, one of the questions that I asked was whether the cursor routing keys over each braille cell on the BraillePen 12 Touch had been made to work in this latest IOS update. Here is the portion of his reply which answers that question.
"Thanks for the message. In the interest of transparency, you should know that my company sells a number of Braille displays and we are the US importer for the BraillePen. I’m familiar with all of the portable options. Unfortunately, Apple did not get the Touch Cursor support implemented in the latest iOS release despite the fact that they’ve had a BraillePenTouch for approximately 6 months. They anticipate releasing the cursor routing support in the next release. However, we’re offering customers alternative firmware which allows the BraillePenTouch to emulate another Braille protocol within Voiceover that does provide the touch cursor support, so we do have a workable cursor routing solution in the short-term. This solution does in fact affect the JAWS support within the BraillePenTouch’s initial firmware. Again, this is a work-around that does quite a nice job for iOS users." So, as I understand that reply, Larry's company can help get a BraillePen Touch working by using a short-term work-around, but this work-around may have the potential to affect how things might work with JAWS. That's just my personal interpretation of that response, mind you. I also learned from Larry that his company is selling the BraillePen Touch for $995, which is a great price, as I've seen others selling it for $1099 and up.
