I tried turning off notifications in locked screen but my devices still 
announce something about having a certain number of notifications periodically 
so that still doesn't solve the problem. I haven't had much problem with this 
when using just a Mac plus one i-device. Of course with the Edge, it's also 
possible to have the Mac on usb with the display and the i-device on bluetooth 
and then I can switch back and forth very nicely. Thanks for the suggestion. I 
guess I can just be thankful for being able to have enough devices to have to 
deal with such a problem in the first place :-)
