The way it works is that the phone uses the data connecttion to access the internet. When you turn Hotspot on the phone becomes a gateway to the internet for other devices to connect to the internet through the phone.

Hello Mickey, Thank you for answering my question. Your answer was very helpful. I do however, have one more question. I'm not always able to get yFy at work because I work in a lower level of the building. I'm not able to get cellular data either. If I bring my cord to my phone and turn on cellular data and personal hotspot with my phone plugged into a desk top should this help with a cellular connection? If I'm not being clear with my question feel free to tell me. Thank you. Hello Connie Just wanted to let you know that cellular data is what you use when you're not connected to Wi-Fi but you're browsing the Internet. A hotspot uses the cellular data and you connect to hotspot with other devices like a laptop. I know what celular data is and that it is more cost effective to use yFy when you can. I just don't know what celular hotspot is. Is it better to have personal hotspot on or off? Thank you Connie.
