I was happily reading along in a Kindle book with scrolling last night when
suddenly the voice switched and started trying to read my Kindle book like it
was a foreign language instead of English. It isn't a voice that sounds like
anything on my rotor and I think it sounds kind of oriental. I tried closing
Kindle and opening it again and I've tried turning the phone off and on; don't
want to reset with home/power unless I have to. The only thing that fixes this
is to change to a different voice in the language rotor. I use Austrailian
English as my default and if I switch to U.S. English or British English, which
are in my rotor, the foreign voice goes away and I can read. Even if I change
to the Spanish voice in my rotor I hear the Spanish voice reading English like
it's Spanish. The only voice in which the behavior occurs is when I am in my
default language according to my voiceover setup. If I just touch the screen
with my default voice selected, the English is read appropriately, but as soon
as I do the two-finger swipe down to read continuously, the other voice that
isn't in my rotor starts up again. I am turning my rotor away from Language
even though that voice is not in my rotor so this doesn't have anything to do
with being in the language rotor. If I swipe down in my home screen this
doesn't happen, just in uindle, though I haven't tried other apps. I can go on
reading with Daniel or Samantha but I want to read with Karen and this is
really griping me. The only other thing I can do is just turn off speech and
read with my braille display. Any suggestions as to how I get Kindle to read
with my default language voice instead of pretending it's a different language
and bringing in some other voice?
Thanks.
