Since you say that you're with T-Mobile, then you're going to need a GSM MVNO. I hear that AllTel and Straight Talk are pretty good. You could just stick with T-Mobile since their cheapest Simple Plan is something like $40.00 for unlimited talk, text and 500 mb of data.
I use Ting which uses the Sprint network and am paying around $50.00 a month for both my wife and I. Ting wouldn't work for you as the GSM phone won't work on the Ting/Sprint CDMA network. That and Ting doesn't yet support the 5C. I think AT&T has started to offer so-so attractive pre-paid smart phone plans too, but perhaps someone whose using AT&T or one of the other GSM MVNO companies can chime in with more accurate information.
