That can't happen soon enough for me. I have felt for a long time that Apple ought to think about working out agreements with some of the channels offered on cable such as ESPN, TSN, TCM etc and offer either monthly or yearly subscriptions much as the cable companies get from us. It certainly can't be any more expensive and probably cheaper.

Hi Amy,

The latest generation of Apple TV supports 1280P which is true HD.
I believe when a new model does come out that it will offer significant
changes, for one there is talk that it will have SIRI for voice control and
possibly it may have motion control. I also think it will have an upgraded
processor and fully support apps, e.g. it will have its own app store. There
is also talk that Apple is negotiating with major cable networks and that
the new Apple TV will be a full and complete replacement of current cable
set top boxes except better.
In any case, I doubt it will be more of the same and just some new box with
basically no new features. I also think that Apple at some point will still
surprise everybody with what they believe the living room experience should
be.

Regards,
Sieghard

Patti,
The only way I know to find out when the new apple TV models are out or
coming, is to follow the sites like macRumors and the like. Basically, all
the apple related blogs. If you have twitter, it's pretty easy but of course
you can just go there. :-)

As best as I can see from what's been going around, the only thing that
those of us with prior generations of apple TV's won't be able to do, is
play content in HD. You can still play content that is HD only, it will just
look different on screen for folks who can see.
And, you'll get the new oS updates just like normal to the generation of
Apple TV that you have.

We have two; and I can't see the need to purchase newer models when it's
basically the same box; though I would if for some reason there was going to
be real changes to my current viewing experience that made it necessary.
That's me though.

How will we know when they bring out a new apple tv? What does that mean
for the models we already have, just an update?
I was going to get another one, I guess I'll wait then.
