Hey all,
Last week, I wrote to Pandora Support about problems with reading the station
list in Pandora. Frankly, I didn't expect to hear back from anybody but I
found the following in my inbox this morning and am passing it along. Although
version 5.5 fixes the problem where VO doesn't tell you the station name unless
hints are turned on, there is a problem with flicking through the list; when
doing so, you're apt to lose focus and get bounced down to one of the tabs at
the bottom of the screen. Also, you may find that the list scrolls to the
bottom where there are recommendations displayed, which is annoying, too. I
wrote to Melina about the loss of focus issue and will see what happens. If I
hear back from her, I'll let you know.

Here's what she had to say.

Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for writing in and for all the feedback.

Our latest version of the Pandora app for iPhone should have resolved some of
the issues that listeners have been experiencing with VoiceOver.

First I recommend rebooting the device by shutting it down entirely, then
turning it back on and trying Pandora again.

Then try uninstalling and reinstalling as follows:

Hold down the Pandora icon on the desktop until all the icons start 'shaking.'
Then tap the tiny "x" that appears in the upper left of the Pandora icon, and
confirm that you want to delete the app. Then re-install Pandora via the App
Store on the device.

Note: Downloading any Application on your devices requires an iTunes Store
account. It’s possible you set up this iTunes account with a different email
and password than your Pandora account.

Also, please be aware that you will need to be running iOS 4.3.3 or higher to
be able to reinstall Pandora from the App Store.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Problem with VoiceOver reading of station list

Hello. VoiceOver (which is built into IOS) allows blind users like me to
navigate the screen and hear screen elements spoken aloud, enabling easy
identification and selection. When attempting to identify station names and
make a selection, Pandora doesn't allow VoiceOver to properly identify and
speak station names unless VoiceOver hints are turned on. Without hints turned
on, VoiceOver just says "station name, station name, station name" et cetera
when I move my finger up and down or flicking through the station list. When
hints are turned on, I'll hear VoiceOver say things like "station name: double
tapping opens Robin Williams Radio" or "station name: double tapping opens
Monty Python Radio" et cetera et cetera. This makes station selection time
consuming and cumbersome at best. Can this problem be fixed, and if so, when?
We blind users would certainly appreciate your attention to this problem,
preferably sooner rather than later. Also, when developing updates, please
ensure that they're properly tested with VoiceOver. We'd appreciate that, too.
Thanks in advance for your prompt attention and consideration. Best regards,
Tom Lange.
