Given all of the many changes Apple announced to the camera app at WWDC in June, I thought it seemed a little silly to announce at the NFB convention the release date would be two to three weeks before the release of iOS8. Why not avoid all the goofs who download the app right after release, don’t upgrade properly, and then complain about the app not preforming properly. Releasing after iOS 8 would encourage folks to install on top of the new iOS rather than the old one. From a marketing perspective, many people in North America and Europe are on vacation in August, going back to school, or otherwise tuned out. This weekend, Chicago has its jazz festival. The last thing I want to do is learn a new iPhone app on one of the last warm weekends of summer.
I agree with Sieghard, the KNFB folks likely ran out of runway and needed to abort take off on the timeframe announced in early July, causing us to speculate needlessly on why this company cannot properly meet its commitments. This app has been hyped beyond belief. Will it slice bread after it is released? People are expecting perfection and the extraordinary.
