If you double tap the tracking button until it says "on with headings", you can hear upcoming street intersections and POIs. This isn't perfect yet, but it can be useful. I haven't tried this next part, but you could combine this with the spoken directions available in iOS7 to get an even better experience. Simply tell Siri "directions to [some location]" and leave the Maps app open, with tracking set as described. Spoken directions plus notifications of all streets and some POIs...
