Hi, Most of your observation has to do with the ios8, not the hardware of the phone or such though.
For me, 6+ can be hard to hold at the first second, but it can be quite comfortable afterwards. I guess, it is just personal choice and also, in some way, some people having some sort of resistant towards bigger phone, with the concept that we are blind, we can do with a smaller screen phone or such.
