Hi Kathy,
If you are in an apartment building and somebody’s iMac is basically on the other side of your living room wall maybe only 10 or 15 feet away it’s quite possible that your iPod would pick it up. As for your Apple Wireless keyboard, the device will stay in your list of devices until you “forget” the device. It doesn’t matter whether you are near it, whether it is on or anything like that. My advice would be to make sure the batteries you put in are good, that they are in the right way around and of course that the keyboard is turned on. If this doesn’t help I would double tap on the “More” button to the right of the listing for your Apple Wireless keyboard and on the next screen double tap on the “Forget Device” button at the top. Then confirm and after that put the keyboard back in pairing mode and repair it. Unfortunately I don’t have an Apple Wireless keyboard any more and can’t remember any more how to put it in pairing mode. I think there is a button or something on the bottom which you have to press with a pen, but I couldn’t swear to that.
