A device a year old it is assumed, has been used for the past year; so 
longevity is that advanced at that point.  But it takes a while for it to 
become an issue, and you will probably have traded it in before that.
I've not got into batterie issues yet, even with a 3GS, but I didn't keep it 
that long.  Folks who buy end'of'the'road stuff for under $100, expect its 
remaining term to be limited.
