Hello Paul,

With Talking Goggles, your phone must not be on silent. The buttons should say 
from right to left: Still Camera, Record or Stop, Change language now en, and 
if Stop is showing, Flash.

Double-tap the Record button and hold the phone about 6 inches from what you 
want to identify.

I read all kinds of things with Talking Goggles but I mostly use it in the 
kitchen to identify things in jars and cans.
