I started out by trying the podcasts app and finally ended up buying
downcast and haven't look back. I found downcast much easier to use than
podcasts.

I personally prefer Podcasts to Downcast but it's great to have choices.
There are downloads choices in Settings > Podcasts. I'm talking about the
main settings on your device, not anything in the podcasts app itself.
There's a choice there not to download at all? Have you tried this and if so
is it not working?
