I was able to get rid of them by using my bluetooth keyboard and using the move
command.

I think this is part of the bug where apps can't be moved from certain
positions on certain devices. For instance, I can't move any app in the row
just above the Dock on my iPhone5, and I therefore can't delete these items
either. If you are able to move the app around, but can't delete it, that's a
different matter.
