Thanks for this, Sieghard. I tried it once as you suggested, but my Outlook froze. I'll keep it in mind for another try if I want to open one of those iOS 8.1 messages again....but for now, I'm just deleting them.

Once again, if you want to read a message where this happens, just reply to the message after you restart Outlook. You can then read the message in your reply email and if you don't want to actually send a reply just escape out of that and delete the message, but at least you can read it that way.
