Well, maybe that is the case. Let's hope then LookTel will release a version soon which fixes the problems most people seem to have and also that it will not go broke again when iOS 8.1.1 comes out which I doubt will be that far away.
Fortunately I don't use/need money reader that much because Canadian currency has braille markings, but it does come in handy sometimes when I get US currency at my store or have older bills without the markings. Of course, that's just a guess. Earlier today, after determining that there was a problem with the MoneyReader app, I deleted it from my phone. Then, upon attaching the phone to iTunes, via my Windows 7 PC, I simply installed the previous version back on the phone and all works well. As a backup solution, I also installed the Eye Note app which works, if not quite as fast as the LookTel MoneyReader, works just as well.
