Carol, I've got iTunes set to sync all songs in my library, but I've also created a playlist like you did. Anyway, I have a good number of compolation albums in my collection where the artist doesn't always show up in the list of artists. I find these particular songs by tabbing or using F6 to get to the search box and entering part or all of the artist's name or the song title. Then I can use tab or F6 to get back to the list of possible matches. This usually works for me. I've worked a lot with iTunes, but i know about enough to be dangerous and no more. In other words, I'm right there with you, grin.
