Double tap and hold followed by swiping to the left will accomplish the same thing. I’m finding however that when I do either gesture, Voiceover will go quiet. Triple clicking the home button to turn VO off and triple click the home button again to bring VO back resolves this issue, but still. The Twitterific folks say that they can’t reproduce it. So who knows.

But, if you ignore that, and put your finger on the screen, you will discover, at least I did, that you are either focused on the article you just read or on the tweet immediately following that article. Also, note that if there is a discussion about a tweet, you can two finger double tap on the tweet and see the whole discussion. It's very nice.
