Ok, if we are talking audio recording, I want to make simple demo
podcasts. do you know a good app for this? Keep in mind, I am no major
tech geek. I know it's not exactly recording too, but I also have
youtube demos I need to do for sighted people. These aren't people who
are going to care how awesomely professional I am so the les complicated
the better.

Yes it is a piece of cake to just do a recording Neal, and I am sure
you'll have no trouble. I also use it with AudioBus, which means I can
stream to my Internet radio server, anywhere I have 3G coverage. Slick.

Richard, but I think that is the point. The internal microphone will
sound so much better not being processed through Apple’s compressors,
etc. You may not need an external microphone unless you want to
record in stereo. I’ll check out the app. It does more than I need,
so I hope it is easy enough to simply make a recording. I’ll give it
a spin.

I have not used the app, but the description looks rather impressive
and they have listed an update today to resolve some VoiceOver bugs.
In the description they specify that it is completely accessible with
VoiceOver.
While I don’t podcast, I’m tempted to buy the app just to support a
developer who makes it clear they care about accessibility.
The only problem there is I would then want to buy a good external
microphone and the cost would jump up from the $6.99 for the app, to
quite a bit more.

Hi Neal, Bossjock Studio bypasses Apple's processing, and it's
totally accessible.

Don, what you are likely hearing with the internal microphone is its
own bass roll off which is quite severe. There are a couple recorder
apps out there that somehow bypass both the limiter and the bass
roll off of the Apple processor, but none of them, to my knowledge,
are accessible. There used to be one, but it has been bought out by
another company who has not made it accessible to my knowledge. If
others on this list know about apps that can do this and are
accessible, I and others would appreciate knowing about them.
I have used external microphones like the Zoom iQ5 which is a stereo
microphone and while I am not sure it totally bypasses the Apple
processing, it certainly sounds better than the internal microphone.
There is also an app you can get for this microphone called HandiRec
which allows one to adjust the parameters of the MS microphone capsules.

Subject: Audio recording questions
Before my questions, let me first thank Sieghard and others who
responded to my inquiry about the choice of an audio recording program.
Dropvox meets my basic recording needs extremely well. However, I
plan to give Clear Record a close examination in the near future for
more critical recording.
Now to the questions. I have recorded some music in church using
Dropvox with the internal mic on my 4S. When playing back the
recording on my windows PC through a decent speaker system, I hear
what seems to be a roll off of the lower frequencies. If this is
the case, is the roll off done in IOS, or is it because I am using
the internal mic, or is the Dropvox program itself rolling off the
lower frequencies?
I vaguely recall reading something on this list a year or so ago
that Dropvox assumed that the program was being used for voice
recording; hence the decreased bass. Unfortunately, my memory is
more than somewhat fallible.
Thanks for answers to my questions.
