I had that exact same problem when I first installed EyeNote. Then I found out that version 2.0 of the app scans for currency automatically when you launch it. If you scan a bill you will hear the denomination announced. You don’t have to do anything else special. I learned that the hard way.

After deleting it, downloading it again, making sure the permissions were set correctly, trying the app and getting nothing, then closing it out of the app switcher, running it again, it now works. Why it took those redundant steps is beyond me, but it is working now. If you only are dealing with US currency, EyeNote works as well as money reader. Plus, it tells you if it is the front or back of the bill.
