Hello,

Just thought I mention this recent experience when I flew back from Las
Vegas to Vancouver with Air Canada. Before the flight took off it was
announced that people should download the free Air Canada app and that once
the flight was in the air, WiFi would be turned on and people with the app
would then be able to access the in-flight entertainment system. This
airplane had no video screens or headphone jacks in the armrest and the only
way to access the in-flight entertainment system was with an iOS device or,
I think, you could also download the app from the Google app store for
Android devices.

For people who did not have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, Air Canada
offered iPad rentals for I think $8 for the 2.5 hour flight, no Android
tablets were offered - great advertising for Apple even though the ipads
were not iPad Air models.

I did actually not bother with the app since WiFi was restricted to
accessing the in-flight system, there was no connection to the internet and
I had some good books from Audible on my iPhone, but I thought it was
interesting that there were no built-in video screens/headphone jacks and I
wonder if this will be the way things will go in the future. I also never
realized they had the iPad rentals until the end of the flight otherwise I
would have liked to see if the staff knew about Voiceover and how to turn it
on or even if the ipads had triple click home enabled.

Regards,

Sieghard
