Sandra and others, Well, the app is rather new, but it would be worth it for those few (or is that most) of you who like beer and wine in Ireland, England, etc, to write the company and say something like “hey, we like beer and wine here too, what gives?” grin.
Seriously, it can’t hurt for visually impaired folks and others outside the United States to ask that the app be made accessible and available. To give a little more background, the company actually sent folks around the country to buy up local beers and send or take them back to their headquarters and do a chemical analysis of each beer along with tasting them and giving them ratings. They were looking for the chemical similarities between beers that folks like or describe in the same way. That way they think they were able to isolate some chemical reasons why they taste the way they do and can then recommend beers with those same characteristics that someone maybe hasn’t tried. The company thinks this is a more neutral way than going by some persons subjective tasting notes. I heard about this from a sighted person who had participated in the beta round before the app became widely available, at least widely available in the U.S. I think it is an interesting project, but they need to do some serious work on the app before VoiceOver users can join in.
