It works for me when hanging up a call, but I find it very hit or miss when answering a call.

Actually it does work. I use it all the time.
The trick to using the 2-finger double tap is to move the phone away
from your head and wait several seconds before issuing the tap.
I did this under 6.+, 7.+ and now 8.1.2.

To my knowledge, the two-finger double tap no longer works with iOS 8.
Try taking the phone away from your ear so it automatically switches to
speakerphone. Then you should be able to hear the End Call button being
announced.

Hi all,
I think it's time I said clearly that I'm really still not happy about
the IPhone's method(s) of ending phonecalls. I suppose this may have
got worse for me as Audio Ducking is on, so now I really can't hear
the button I'm trying to locate at the end of a call and even pressing
the on/off switch doesn't always work.
At one stage the buttons, I think, were better placed at the bottom of
the phone, maybe nearer the corners. If I am wrong here then, never
mind; but I really wish there was an easier way to end calls
efficiently when not connected to a headset.
Does anyone else feel this way and, if so, do you think there's any
workable solution that we could put forward to the Accessibility
Team? Maybe this isn't a big deal for anyone, but I still think it
spoils the ship for me and I quite often see postings from people who
are having this difficulty.
Thanks for any useful comments I could colnsider before writing to Apple.
