Since the processor in the 5s is slower, the phone would respond slower.
Also, since the battery is not as massive, the drain would be greater.

Sieghard, you know, the problem with email is that, while so much can be

Allow me to clarify my previous comments:
I do have access to an iPhone 64GB 5 S running 8.1.2.
In general, the OS feels less responsive to me on the 5 S than it does on
the 6 Plus especially where Safari is concerned. This is definitely true
with regard to screen refresh rates. Without going into details, simply
put, I cannot reproduce many of the iOS 8.1.2 bugs, many have reported
on-list, on my 6 Plus; not the least of which being the Notifications Clear
All Button problem. However, I can reproduce many of these bugs, including
the Notifications Clear All Button problem on the 5 S.
Sieghard, with your comments in mind, I decided to do a side-by-side
comparison of the Apple Maps app on both the 5 S and the 6 Plus, today.
I took both of the phones, simultaneously, on two routes, one walking and
one in a vehicle. The following are my conclusions:
Please note that before I began my tests, I closed all previously opened
apps on both devices and performed a system reboot. During the test, I held
one device in my right hand and the other in my left.
1.
Assuming that there are no interruptions such as incoming phone calls, SMS
messages, etc, to my surprise, the app performed identically on both
devices.
2.
Any interruptions during navigation, such as incoming calls, SMS messages,
etc caused some navigation delay on the 5 S. Also, screen refresh rates and
VoiceOver response time was noticeably slower on the 5 S after experiencing
said interruptions.
3.
The battery drain on the 5 S was significantly greater than on the 6 Plus.
Finally, I have decided to upgrade my 5 S to 8.1.2.

I'm sure others are, so please do post it online or, if you do a review or
Podcast on some place like Applevis let the list know.
What I don't logically understand is why Apple Maps on a 6 Plus running
8.1.2 should be a much better experience than on a 5S running 8.1.2. Apart
from the larger screen there is little difference between the two phones as
far as I can tell when it comes to the components which effect Apple Maps.
You said yourself that you did not have 8.1.2 installed on your 5S.

First let me say that, from a VoiceOver perspective especially, there is a
big difference between the iOS 7.1.2 and the iOS 8.1.2 version of Apple
Maps, the latter being much better and more streamline in almost every
aspect.
Second, Apple Maps now uses Tom-Tom as it's mapping source so its accuracy
rivals that of Google Maps.
Third, in my opinion only, version 8.1.2, in general, and Apple Maps,
specifically, does not perform as well on the 5 S and earlier models as it
does on the 6 series. The difference to me at least is astonishing. Keep in
mind that while I did not install 8.1.2 on my own 5 S, I did use it quite a
bit on those with which I have access and was not that impressed.
Finally, as I really don't like Apple Maps 7.1.2, when you have access to
iOS 8.1.2, please send me your contact info, off-list, and I will be happy
to walk you through the Apple Maps, so to speak.
Using the app is so simple once several key concepts are understood. In
fact, the Apple Maps app is the simplest and most accurate off-the-shelf
software GPS interface I've ever used on iOS. And the best part is that one
need no vision in order to play it like a fine guitar.

I can for the life of me not get tha hang of Apple maps. I've probably used
it too few times. Is there maybe somewhere i can listen to a podcast going
through the use of Apple maps?
The reason why i never got around to using Maps was that people complained
about its inaccuracy and missinformation at the time it was released so i
figured i wouldn't touch the thing until it got fixed, and apparently it is
now, so i'd love to figure the beast out.

Okay, I am completely and totally in love with my new iPhone 6 Plus
running 8.1.2. It's really that simple. The phone is so responsive
to commands, the battery life is amazing, relatively speaking, and the
versatility seemingly limitless.
I have not truly enjoyed conversing on a mobile phone since the early
90s when phones were much larger. However, with my 6 Plus, I actually
prefer to hold the phone up to my face, during calls, as it feels like
a normal-size receiver. The sound quality on the 6/6 Plus is awesome,
also. I could go on and on about the marvelous properties of the 6
Plus but doing so is not the purpose of this post.
Although I never dreamed it would happen, I have to say that I am now
using the iOS Apple Maps more than any other, off-the-shelf software
GPS navigation solution. Yes, I am even liking it more than A T & T
Navigator.
Please note that this does not include Seeing Eye GPS as it provides a
level of feedback that is unparalleled in that it provides
cross-street announcements that sighted travelers do not require.
Earlier today, I sent a letter to Apple thanking them for making their
iOS Apple Maps so very VoiceOver accessible. I wanted to acknowledge
that unlike so many other mapping services, they did not forget those
of us who are blind or low vision.
At a time when so many of us, humans that is, are so fast to point out
flaws and so slow to offer compliments, I wanted Apple to know that I
owe a great deal of my ever-increasing independence to their consideration
and efforts.
So, the reason I am posting is to invite you to send Apple some love
by sending in some positive feedback about whatever you like about
their products. For example, today I submitted comments about how
much I am truly enjoying the iOS 8.1.2 Apple Maps app via VoiceOver.
