Beta is, by definition, stable. No new features are added between that
point and the final release. When something enters beta, that means it
has been thoroughly tested by The VirtualGL Project and that we do not
know of any issues with it, but we put it out there as a beta release so
others can check our work (since we are not perfect and cannot think of
everything.) No major issues have been discovered with VirtualGL 2.2
beta 1, so if that remains the case, it will be released as 2.2 final
once the beta is 3 months old.

There will be a second beta of TurboVNC soon, to address some issues
discovered during a large corporate deployment in Australia. To be
clear, though, these are issues which have existed in all "stable"
releases all the way back to (and including) our parent code base,
TightVNC 1.3. It's simply that no one has encountered them before now,
because they occur under fairly esoteric circumstances. In the sense of
"prone to failure", prior "stable" releases probably have more bugs than
the current beta.

The best way to accelerate the process of VirtualGL/TurboVNC releases is
to test the beta versions thoroughly and provide feedback. Avoiding
them because they bear the name "beta" is going to have the opposite
effect to what you intend. It won't shield you from bugs. It will
simply mean that more bugs go unnoticed and make it into the final release.

Start uncovering the many advantages of virtual appliances
and start using them to simplify application deployment and
accelerate your shift to cloud computing.
