Hi It appears that the rdf file I used was marked to be UTF-8 (<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>), but the actual file format was iso latin (iso-8859-1). After I changed the rdf file to read <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?> it worked. It worked also when I changed the actual file format to UTF-8 while keeping the content encoding parameter as UTF-8.
So in the end it was an user error :) Btw: the Virtuoso version is 5.0.12-rc4.3040 which I got from you couple days ago to fix the add user bug. Thus can you please reconfirm your virtuoso server version by running the command: virtuoso-t -? Or might you have received a custom build from one of our developers ?
