At first blush, you seem to be using a Virtuoso 6 INI file without any of the following settings for Virtuoso 7's vectorized execution:

MaxQueryMem                = 200K
VectorSize                 = 100
MaxVectorSize              = 10000
AdjustVectorSize           = 0

The column-wise storage benefits are more visible when you are performing complex decision support/analytics oriented queries against larger datasets. They also provide better compactness of the physical database and as a consequence better working set cache .
