1. MESSAGE FROM SISKIND, SUSSER, HAAS & DEVINE -
http://www.visalaw.com/99sep/1sep99.html

Dear Readers:

As we are putting this issue to bed, we are also keeping a close eye on
legislative activities in Washington. September is make or break month for
immigration legislation and we will probably have a great deal of news to
report in our next issue. A number of immigrant advocacy organizations will
be having lobbying days this month to press Congress on a number of issues.
I'll be in DC attending lobbying events sponsored by the American
Immigration Lawyers Association, the ABA Coordinating Committee on
Immigration Law (on which I serve) and the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (on
whose Board of Directors I serve). I look forward to reporting on the
experience in our October issue.

As a firm, we've had a big month in the news. We were cited as one of the
best immigration resources on the Internet by two different
publications Fortune Magazine and Access, the weekly magazine that is
distributed with several dozen Sunday newspapers around the country. And by
the time you read this, we expect an article on the firm to have run in the
Wall Street Journal.

We were also honored when William Paul, the new president of the American
Bar Association, mentioned our firm as an illustration of how lawyers can
use technology in our case the Internet to more effectively deliver legal
services to the public.

In this issue, we cover many of the legislative issues currently in
Congress. Bills are in the works that would raise the H-1B cap, reverse
excesses of the 1996 Immigration Act, reorganize the INS and much more. We
also provide analytical articles on how employers can comply with I-9
rules, the basics of consular processing, understanding employee and a
special guest article on whether promises by employers to sponsor an
applicant for a green card are legally binding.
Also, a reminder of our other free newsletter, Siskind's Immigration
Professional. The newsletter provides notices of job openings, reporters
seeking story leads, conference announcements, book and software reviews
and other announcements that will be of interest to immigration lawyers,
paralegals, foreign student advisors and anyone else who handles
immigration matters for a living. If you wish to be added to our email
distribution list, just email us at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and be sure to tell us a little bit about what kind of immigration-related
work you do and where you work. More than 800 of our readers who are
immigration professionals have already subscribed. We only include
immigration professionals on this list so it is important to specify the
type of work in which you are engaged.
And as always, we remind readers that this publication is put out by
Siskind, Susser, Haas & Devine, an immigration law firm, and we are
available for telephone or in-person consultations to answer immigration
questions and discuss our representing individuals and employers in
immigration matters. If interested, please go to
http://www.visalaw.com/intake.html.

Regards,

Greg Siskind
