I finally solved the problem.... Or I should say, I had Greg Talik from Southward International -- http://www.southwardintl.com/ -- take a look at it. After I'd spent 12 hours he solved it in 20 minutes.
It turned out that my Bellsouth DSL modem has a setting -- on the Home Network tab -- called IP Passthrough.
