Yep, it's not the snappiest of performers, that's for sure. And there are 
keysize limits and such.

I got GDBM working on VMS a few years ago. It required some hacking to get 
around some bad coding practices, and it was single-process access only, 
but it did work.

Do you need database transportability, or just the same interface 
everywhere? If the latter, maybe someone can get VMS::IndexedFile a 
xDBM-compatible interface and you can use that in your Any_DBM qw string...
