You got bit by the infamous "We parse the output of CC/VER" whoops. 
CONFIGURE.COM mis-figured what compiler you had. There's other stuff wrong 
in there--you probably don't have a properly working perl.

I'll dig up the patch for it and send it along to the list tomorrow.
