Okay, applied, works in UNIX, but still not quite right.  I think...
I get weird rebuilds by rerunning make.  But what gets rebuilt changes
every time... I'm starting to suspect that my NFS timestamps aren't
quite right.  I'll try later a build on a local filesystem.
