Yes. In particular the code that does vms-to-unix and unix-to-vms filename translation was written before ODS-5 was dreamed of and makes assumptions that break when ODS-2 syntax rules are not adhered to. IIRC there is a mangled version of an extended filespec composed of the FID and some other bits of the full file name; I don't remember offhand about how to get at this name and I'm pretty sure there's no way to get at it from Perl. -- ________________________________________ Craig A.
