Regarding the zlib failures, I've uploaded a beta release of Compress::Zlib version 2 to CPAN. One of the things I've done with the new version is rewrite the underlying code that VMS is tripping over. [FYI the gzopen interface now uses a perl filehandle rather than a C filehandle]. Could someone with access to a VMS box try building the new Compress::Zlib please? If this new release builds and runs its harness first time on VMS without any problems I'll be very surprised, but it would be nice to know if I've addressed this particular issue.
