A quick note about Microsoft. Seth will enjoy this one as he programmed the CQL (SQL) engine I embedded in a DOS product that permitted people to "share information using folders."
I actually received several patents, see, e.g.: http://www.delphion.com/details?pn=US05167011__ It turned out that our product was much too early, but, MS Outlook infringed on the patent. I can say, first hand, that Microsoft is truly vicious. After three years of negotiating and arbitration, Microsoft paid a measely $200K to my licensing firm, but litigation costs on both sides were about $1.5 million, of which I got ONLY, a few free meals for the deposition when with MS attornies in NY. These guys play to get "all the marbles." I do hope that Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly gets them on anti-trust charges! Time will tell. -- W.
