Thanks for the reply. However, I think the problem is worse than that. If
I simply run Xvnc, I actually get segmentation fault. I suspect the problem
is simply faulty/non-working binary for the AMD64 (x86_64) architecture. I
tried removing and re-installing the rpm that was on the SUSE CD, but the
same thing happened. I tried compiling tightvnc and realvnc from source,
but Xvnc won't compile out-of-box.

If anyone had success getting vnc going on the AMD64, I'd be grateful for
any tips!

Best,
Andy

It appears some vnc-server is running and refusing a connection. Something
like bad-password but I more or less think about bad or non configuration.

If your vnc is not the one from your SuSE distro, then better start removing
your vnc and install the one (or more packages) from the SuSE distro.

Now run `vncserver` as the user you like to access. This'd better not be the
'root' account since that can be restricted in many ways for security.
Hence, do it as a "normal" user.

Now you should be able to access it all.

I don't know the SuSE version you use, but I do know SuSE 8.2 comes with the
inetd/xinetd configuration preconfigured. Point your vncviewer to susebox:10
and you should get a vnc-session at which you need to login just like at the
console.

btw: you can install the suse documentation, its one of the packages on the
cd/dvd set. Once installed, you have the books online....
