Have searched the archives but no exact fixes for the following:
2 WinXP computers in same room, connected to cable modem and cable ISP, via a local ethernet with router,
VNC server, VNC viewer 3.3.7
static IP addresses 192.168.xxx.xx0, 192.168.xxx.xx1
Installed easily, set socket password, connected instantly , desktop appeared instantly
Happiness!
Then unplugged 1 computer, used dail-up account with it and repeated View request, same IP address as before.
Always times out (around 20 sec)
Tried it again from distant dial-up computer - same.
Tried ping from distant computer - no connection.
Unhappiness!
Forgot to check what protocol the first two computers were using for their LAN - maybe TCP/IP.
If so maybe I wasn't even using the cable ISP, just the LAN - the response times were VERY fast, ditto for pings.
Any ideas? or places to look in docs?
Peter
