My advice would be to dump ZA, you're not the first person to have
connection problems which are often identified as being due to ZA
misbehaving.

Here's a recent article on home firewalls:

FWIW my personal preference is for Kerio personal firewall
<http://www.kerio.com/kpf_home.html>. I've just seen that there's a brand
new version out (v4, still free) - not sure what it's like but I can highly
recommend the previous version 2.15.

Hi

I've also been having problems with RealVNC 4.0 and ZoneAlarm 4.5.530 (the
standard version, not Pro).

I'm using Windows XP Professional SP1 with ZoneAlarm and the 4.0 beta 4
viewer-only package, and I'm trying to connect to a Win2K SP4 server running
4.0 beta 3. When I try to connect I get the "attempting to connect" box
displayed, and VNC gets no further. If I try to connect from my XP machine
to the Win2K machine using the Java viewer, or if I turn off ZoneAlarm,
everything works perfectly.

Thanks

Robert McMordie
