Hi All,

I met a problem when configing realvnc in xinetd and couldn't get the answer to
resolve it.

Could you please help to look at it?

Linux Server : Redhat Linux 9.0 (both kde and gnome were installed)
VNC Server : Real VNC 3.3.7 X86 Linux (binary tarball)
VNC Viewer : Real VNC Viewer 3.3.7 windows (my pc is WinXP)
Configuration: I configured the xinetd using the way descriped in
http://www.sourcecodecorner.com/articles/vnc/linux.asp. Redhat 9 has replaced the
inetd with xinetd, so the /etc/inetd.conf doesn't exist in redhat 9. But I did do
creat one in case of any unknown exceptions.
Result: The xinetd can successfully start when the os reboots. When I connect
the vncserver using vnc viewer using the port configured in /etc/services such as
50,51,etc., it can be successfully connected. A port number was assigned by sequence.
But only a blank x desktop with nothing appears in the vncviewer. No login prompt, no
xterm and no where to start a process.
Questions: Why does it happen? Did I mis-config anything or did I need any
further configuration? I was thinking to see the login prompt when I connect to the
vncserver.

Others: There is another strange thing. If I installed real vnc server 4.0,
when connecting to the vncserver, a password input box was prompted. What should that
password be? Where does it store? In addition, I tried tight vnc also, but got the
same result.

Anyone knows about it? Thanks a lot!

Regards

Rick
