I have now tried VNC4, and the problem remains. I may have been to hasty to blame VNC. It very well could be one of the apps that starts when I start Xvnc. I will have to look into it more. This is a bad memory leak though, something like 1 kb/s, so that in no time at all my 1 Gb of memory is gone.
Look at the RSS field in the top program (and sort by memory usage), and check out the vmstat utility.
