I agree wholeheartedly.  This is an idea I have been kicking around for a
while, I am glad someone finally voiced it.

I definitely would contribute a few bucks to this effort.  It would need to
be cross-platform, which I believe can be done by starting with the current
version of RealVNC4.  The back-end would need to be scalable and run on *nix
and Windows, of course.

Before doing this, perhaps our friends at RealVNC could give a few comments
or helpful pointers?  What would it cost to develop something like this?  I
would be willing to bet that a lot of us admins and helpdesk people would
love to send some money via Paypal or something to get RealVNC to develop
such a product.
