Hi all,

I have two PCs, one WinXP one Win2k, connected through a switch, without a firewall or
VPN connection between them. Just a plain
Ethernet connection.

When I reboot the WinXP machine, I am unable to use VNC Viewer on my Win2k machine to
connect. I see the following error:

Unable to connect to host: connection refused (10061)

However, if I go to my WinXP machine and do CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the login prompt,
I am able to connect through VNC. Note that I
do not have to log in, just bring up the login prompt.

If I log out of WinXP (not reboot), I am also able to connect using VNC just fine.

I do not have this problem on the Win2k machine. I can reboot Win2k (without
CTRL+ALT+DEL or logging in), then connect to my Win2k
machine using VNC viewer on my WinXP machine without any problems.

Here is what I have tried so far to fix the problem:

   * Verified both PC are running VNC as a Service
   * Reinstalled RealVNC on both PCs
   * Installed TightVNC, had the same problem
   * Verified I can ping the WinXP in the state when I receive the error
   * Verified "Fast User Switching" is disabled (I am on a network domain, so that is
unavailable)
   * Verified "Remote Administration is disabled
   * Verified I am a member of the "Administrators" group for the WinXP machine
   * Ensured both the Service-Mode and User-mode passwords are the same

I have searched the email archive and other internet sources and have not been able to
figure out what is going on here.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Bonnie
