Try this -- from a dos prompt on the "client" machine go to a dos prompt and
type "nbtstat -a <machine name>" and see if it comes up. Also, are you
running WINS? If so, make sure you can see those machines from your WINS
server. If not, then you're going to have to find some other way to know
what IP each machine is on at any given time.

If you get a good response from "nbstat -a" you should be good to go for
that particular machine and can type "nbtstat -R" followed by "nbtstat -RR"
(case-sensitive) to refresh your netbios cache of machines on your LAN. If
you don't get a positive response, as I mentioned above, you'll have to find
some way to know what machine is at a given IP.

Hi,

I am using VNC 3.3.7 in an office environment. The Server App of VNC is
installed on each Workstation which are using mostly Windows 2000 and few
workstations using WinXP. I have installed the VNC Viewer on the Windows
2000 Server. During the installation of the VNC Server App, I configured
each instance appropriately and input the password. I was curious about the
fact that I was not required to input the Computer Name ( I have to connect
to each workstation using Computer Name because the IP Addresses are Dynamic
rather than Static ).

After installing the VNC View on the desktop of the Server, I attempted to
connect to one of the workstations, using it's Computer Name....I received
an error " Failed to get Server Address".

What have I missed ?

Thank you in advance for your assistance

Dale
