I am seeing strange behavior on a couple of XP Professional SP2
computers running RealVNC Server v 4.0 in service mode. Both are brand
new, factory fresh boxes with typical windows components installed, only
3rd party application running is Symantec AV Corporate Edition.

When I attempt to connect to either of these remote boxes I get the
standard password authentication prompt, enter my credentials, then
instead of displaying the remote computer's desktop I simply get a tiny
windows taskbar in the middle of the screen with the remote computer's
name, a minimize button and a close button - nothing else. I cannot see
any portion of the remote screen and the window is not resizeable. If I
attempt to switch to full-screen mode I get a black screen. Connection
info shows "Desktop geometry 0x0x16"

I followed all directions for adding an exception to the built in
firewall, added 5900 both TCP & UDP just for good measure. On one of the
machines I disabled the firewall entirely, still nothing. I disabled
remote desktop, no change. Fast User Switching is disabled on both
boxes. One of the computers is on a remote subnet with another XP box
that is not on SP2 - I can run a VNC session with no problems to it so I
know there are no issues with the hardware firewall blocking
inbound/outbound connections to the site.

The issue is clearly SP2 related but I'm stumped, anyone seen this
before? I'm supposed to put several more of these SP2 boxes in the field
but am reluctant to do so until I can get my VNC issues cleared up!

Thanks,
Mike
