is there something else i have to enable on my router/firewall besides just simple port forwarding?
i have a pretty good grasp of the basics here and as far as i can tell everything's setup properly.
A couple of ideas:
To aid in debugging and troubleshooting, you *could* try to leave the
firewall alone, shut down your webserver, and reconfigure VNC to listen
with VNC on port 80 or 21. See if you can connect from the remote site
to vnc::80 or vnc::21. If you can, something funky is going on either
with ports 5800 and 5900 or some special permissions are given to 80 and 21. If it works and you know your own router is configured identically for all these ports, you also know that e.g. 80 and 5900 are configured differently somewhere... Enabling your webserver on 5800 or 5900 will then allow you to do the opposite test.
Or try from an internet cafi where you ask about their firewall setup to ensure that they allow "everything".
Or just list your public IP address and we'll try to access it from
here! :-D ( Only a joke! - don't post your public IP address here. But I wouldn't mind doing a little test from home if you email me privately. Up to you. )
